Description:The 22q and You Center at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is an internationally recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of children with chromosome 22q11.2 deletion. This genetic disorder is at the root of DiGeorge syndrome, velocardiofacial syndrome and other disorders. Founded in 1996, the 22q and You Center is the premiere site for the diagnosis and multidisciplinary management of children with a chromosome 22q11.2 deletion. This condition may cause a variety of health problems, ranging from heart defects and cleft palate to feeding difficulties, immune problems, a unique pattern of learning disabilities and more. Our staff includes geneticists, genetic counselors and other medical personnel who specialize in 22q11.2 deletion. Physicians and researchers in the 22q and You Center also actively study the disorder. Their goal is to find out more about what causes the disorder and how they can make the lives of children affected by it even better. We have evaluated more than 1,200 patients with a 22q11.2 deletion at our Center and are the largest program in the country specializing in this condition. While many of our patients are from the mid-Atlantic region, we serve the national and the international community as well. Families travel to us from throughout the United States, Canada, and countries including Australia, England, France, Germany, Israel and the Ukraine.
